The club's alcohol license is going to a review hearing on June 10th. The Community Association (the charity that runs the centre) will probably have an application to vary their premises license to include supply of alcohol heard on the same date. The case is heard by three councillors who are on the City Licensing Committee and are not representatives of the area the club is in. Three Green Party councillors have advised us that we stand no chance of winning the review because most of the councillors on the licensing committee almost always do what the police want and have an instinctive negative reaction to the word 'drugs'. If we lose there is an appeal to magistrates. It is also quite likely that the Community Association's application to vary their license will be turned down, as the City Council have a policy of not wanting bars in community centres (only two others are left in the city) and of not allowing new licenses in the Cowley Road. The Social Club committee have offered to surrender their license on condition the new premises license is allowed.
Anybody can submit a representation between now and May 19th (e-mail licensing@oxford.gov.uk or write to Licensing Authority, Ramsay House, 10 St Ebbe's Street Oxford OX1 1PT, quote ref 08/00393/RVCLUB) or even submit a case to the hearing as an interested party.
